While I was in Regina, I set up the 2nd Web server in that institution (after Computer Science Department), which was also one of the earliest web servers in the world in April of 1994. I have authored/managed or participated in management of the following pages/servers (a partial list) since April 1994. Some of the pages in Regina are taken over by others while some are discontinued. |

I got my B Sc in Biology in February of 1982 from Hebei Teachers' University
and my Ph D in Botany from
University of Alberta in June
of 1993. From July of 1993 to June of 1995, I was a Post Doctoral Fellow
doing a project for the Flora of
North America at the
University of Regina.
After that I was the WebMaster
of the Faculty of
Science and the Department
of Biology at the same University while teaching one or two Biology
courses each semester until I left there early June of 1997.
In addition, I have been fairly active in Internet Chinese community. I was Deputy Chief Editor of Chinese magazine Feng Hua Yuan in charge of networks from October of 1995 to December, 1998. During that period, FHY network experienced from relying solely on University networks to having its own domain (December of 1997) with one host, and then having multi-hosts (October of 1998). Operating systems include MS WindowsNT, and UNIX (OSF, BSD, Linux, and RedHat). I played the key role in leading the FHY tech team, contacting outside network sponsor/ISPs, domain registration, system setup, network DNS setup, web/ftp server configurations, main/current/index/gif page constructions/maintenance at FHY web sites, and Web/FTP releases. I am one of the founders of MultiWorld (the first online Chinese multimedia magazine) & the AoMi project - both are inactive. I maintained a Chinese collection between 1994 - 1997 while I was in Regina, one of earliest Chinese archives. Via email, I have communicated with thousands of readers over the years on how to display Chinese with Mosaic, LYNX, NetScape, IE, and AOL browsers. For Biology related pages, I am only maintaining Internet Directory for Botany, the world leading page in Botany, and List of WWW Sites of Interest to Ecologists (mirror) . All other pages are maintained by others or simply dropped. Please direct your inquiries/requests to those who took over the pages. |
